Real estate agents rank among the world’s most desired careers

A global study highlights strong interest in a profession that combines flexibility and opportunity

“What do you want to be when you grow up?” It’s a question most of us heard as children. Back then, the answers ranged from firefighter to astronaut, princess to superhero, and everything in between. But in adulthood, the answers change. According to a global study published by Forbes in 2025, the second most desired profession in the world is real estate agent — second only to airline pilots.

In Brazil, the number of real estate agents has grown significantly in recent years. The country currently has more than 630,000 registered professionals and ranks second worldwide in the profession, behind only the United States. This growth reflects the dynamism of the real estate market and the strong appeal the career holds for new professionals.

The profession has attracted individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, driven by flexible schedules, the potential for substantial financial returns, and the freedom to work independently. Many see the real estate market as an opportunity to start over or to build a business in a dynamic, opportunity-rich sector. In addition, the industry offers a variety of niches, from the sale of new and pre-owned properties to short-term rentals and property management, expanding the possibilities for those looking to enter the field.

Despite its inherent challenges, the real estate market has proven to be highly resilient. The sector recorded growth of over 20% in 2024, consolidating its position as one of the most relevant long-term investment options in Brazil. This environment supports strong market activity, making it an attractive path both for investors and for agents who see in the sector a real opportunity for growth. It’s no surprise that the profession has become one of the most sought-after in the world.

And at this pace, it may not be long before “real estate agent” joins astronauts and superheroes on the list of childhood dream careers.
